| Spooky Laura! I was just this morning telling my husband about a Steam Train Christmas shopping day excursion to York that I saw advertised in our local paper! I expected them to do their usual smirk and eye-rolling at me, but he actually said he was interested in it! Can you imagine the loveliness of it - a REAL steam train trip all the way to York, with Santa on the train and tea and cakes if you want (or silver service breakfast, lunch and dinner for those with a deluxe ticket!). Then all day shopping in historic York, with Xmas lights and market etc, then steam train ride home again! How very Miss.Marple! The only trouble is, I put the said newspaper out with the paper recycling.... doh!
York is a beautiful and olde worlde city - with great shopping!! It's certainly worth thinking about a get together! I could maybe even hitch a ride up North with my husband when he's off up to his office - or he might want to come! (he's in touch with his feminine side!). We also stay with relatives in Liverpool often in school holiday times - if that was more equadistant for people - or Alison may want to join in?!
On the WI front Laura, I am surprised to hear you know members in their 30's (I'm 34), unfortunately I really don't think that is the case here, judging by the ladies who man the WI stall and the topics for discussion at their meetings (as advertised in our local listings mag). Maybe one day I'll pluck up the courage to go and find out....
I may have also cooked my goose by dragging my Mum with me to the WI stall to compare my own home-made marmalade with theirs in an Inspector Cleauseau, not-very-subtle stylee, which resulted in her giggling at me rather a lot, and the women thinking me rather 'odd'! I'd never made marmalade before - I was very proud!! And mine did look better...... aren't I naughty?!! People in this town don't have much of a sense of silliness or humour I'm afraid, which would make me a veritable pain in the bum in most social gatherings! I'm afraid I'm the sort of person who can (quietly) find comedy at a funeral.... |

| I couldn't make Xmas (although the steam train sounds lovely - anyone want to make a date for next year?!) but what about round Easter?
We should start another thread, really... oooh, a Brocante meeting!!!

| | Yes, nearer the time I would definitely want to do it. Hard to plan for Easter until we know exactly how the school holiday falls, etc. Sounds good though! |

| | Not that I am aware of, I never went, and I dont think anything was organised on here, so I am pretty sure we did not meet up. |
