PostSubject: Need fridge help!!   Wed Feb 20, 2008 7:20 pm

I cleared out the fridge yesterday, put all the fruit in bowls etc and then today, after I made two pies, I put them in the fridge covered in a damp cloth, like my mum used to, until they were to be cooked...

My other half got home, opened the fridge, and announced that I couldn't have anything uncovered or damp in the fridge as it is frostfree and the fruit and cloth I had put in would break the fridge....

is this true??? seems daft and non-sensical to me!!!

Seems possible to me, sadly, Ouissi (are you in my beloved France with a name like that?!)

I'm still trying to get over my mum's kitchen floor - sturdy solid inches-thick C19th boards - being re-sanded and varnished and then finding out we can't use a damp cloth on the finish!!!

What use is a kitchen floor that you can't damp-wipe or mop??!?!?!

The previous time I sanded it myself by hand and brush-varnished it. That lasted for twelve years. This is already breaking up after 18 months. I'm trying hard not to look smug...

"built-in obsolescence" is one thing but now we seem to have strayed into "unfit for purpose" territory!

Ouissi - I've NEVER heard of that with a frost-free refrigerator. We have always had a frost-free fridge and I have always put uncovered fruit in the fridge and have often put damp cloth covering dough or something like that overnight. My refrigerator is going on 16 years old and still working fine.

I leave things uncovered in my fridge all the time and my frost free fridge works just fine. I wonder where he heard such a thing?

Lord knows where he heard it....maybe its up there with the fact he "knew" a certain baby formula had caused his cousin's 34 year weight problems until my mum told him that myself, my sister and my nephew were all raised on that formula and we are all skinny!!!

Maybe he made it up....

he is convinced though...cannot talk him out of it *sigh*

I hate keeping everything in containers....

Someone hasn't got two clues has he? Tell him this;

"The pies aren't going to damage the fridge, But since you insist, and there's no other way to store the uncooked pies that suits ME, I shan't be making any more."

I brought it up again (i know...but it was annoying me!!) and he said that he had read it in the fridge instruction book.....

I said I'd find some other way, but I won't...I'll just store them there next time...he loved the pie, and that is how is has to be made!!

men.

It is like his vacuum...apparently "the best" but cumbersome and completely lacking in actually userbility....I should have known the previous bachelor pad would have been this way...when I moved in he told me with pride that he has chosen the kitchen to match the colour he had painted the wall...who does that???

He'll get over it!! This place just needs some more cushions and flowers and for my stuff to finally be put on new bookshelves!! I've lived here 2 years...but being at home ft does make you look at your surroundings more...

;)

Hummmmm....sounds like he's still in the breaking-in period. My advice is just continue as you have done. He'll start seeing things your way. When he squawks, just smile and nod. Pat his head and go about your business.

My mother gave me an invaluable piece of advice with regard to handling men. She said "I just translate your father's mumbled grunt into any answer I want."

;)

I don't know where he gets these things from...honestly!!

he has been extra touchy about things the last couple of weeks (long story!!) and is just going back to normal so I cannot be bothered getting too antagonistic just now and setting him off again...

I'll just start introducing bowls of fruit etc into the fridge and next time cover the damp cloth with a dry one....that is covered..right

I don't understand why uncovered stuff would break the fridge??? You can't have everything in containers anyway can you?? I have never heard of this, although I don't have a frost free fridge (I don't think!). Weird.

I suspect he may be clawing back control of his 'pad' in any sad way he can - men are funny like that! He will eventually admit defeat and see how wonderful it is sharing his home with the woman who no doubt makes his life much more pleasurable!

My husband still hasn't quite got over the fact that his Karate trophies are now on special shelves in his office, and not on top of the TV (????!!!) like when I first met him - 13 years ago!!!! Or the samurai swords that used to adorn our window sills - I ask you!!! We had a baby for goodness sake - they had to go before a terrible tragedy occurred. But it obviously displaced his 'manhood' somehow to see these items also displaced......

God they were ugly.

That's not the best bit! The first Christmas we were a couple, he was really proud to show off his 'tasteful' decorations - a string of multi coloured fairy lights wrapped round a brown chip-board Hi-Fi cabinet!!!! That was his 'tree'. I kid you not - he still reminisces about what a HUGE effort he made to make the place 'nice' for me that first Christmas!!!

I'm guessing it says more about me than it does about him that I later married him though doesn't it?!

Thats an improvement over the beer bottle pyramid/Christmas tree I've seen proudly displayed. Gah!

I'm laughing so hard reading all of these husband issues. LOL My husband has the need to feel he's sitting in a cockpit all of the time - so he thinks every inch of wall space has to be covered with a piece of furniture. Goodness! I am slowly regaining some emptiness though and boy is it looking better!

Mine is souless central when it comes to decorating...no pictures, no colours, blinds always down, just in case someone may see us in the flat (I open them all day) and all (plain) tablelights etc blutacked to the tables.....

When I tried to put my beautiful art deco crystal drop lamp on my bedside table he made a fuss saying the lamps must match...they do, you just can't see mine for the framed pictures, books, artwork and crystal vases ;)

*snigger*
