Good Morning. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have finally got a brand new forum up for all us Vintage Housekeepers to get to know each other all over again...
I suspect you all know more about me than you will ever need to, but just in case you don't, my name is Alison and that is me with my three year old babba Finley above. I am suddenly single and still trying to deal with the flotsom and jetsum caused by our break up, but BrocanteHome is about looking for the teeny tiny pleasures in life (like violet creams and a cosy blanket!) and not dwelling on the things we cannot change...

I live in a titchy little terraced cottage on the outskirts of Liverpool, Uk and my scrumptious happy little bedroom is my favorite place to be in the world. I like everything terribly old fashioned: from Judy Garland to handwashing my smalls, and absolutely adore the world I have created at BrocanteHome...

Your turn!

Hi! I have been loving this site since I found it over over a year ago. I check it every single day (I'm number 9 on your myspace friends list, Alison!). I'm 28, live in Illinois and am in love with all things vintage. I collect antique photographs and all kinds of vintage ephemera. I love treasure hunting at thrift shops and flea markets (my husband thinks I'm crazy), and am happy to meet others with the same interests.

I have a six year old daughter who now alerts me anytime she sees anything "old-fashioned" looking in a store. I love that she can spot what I like! Other than everything vintage, my other love is reading..historical fiction, mostly.

Thanks for creating this forum, Alison!

Hi, I'm a new visitor to your site, I came across it about 4 weeks ago and have been kind of lurking ever since. I'm 30 with 2 little boys (or angels in disguise as I like to call them). I live with my husband in small town called Aberdare in South Wales.

I love anything vintage, why would you want to go and buy mass produced goods when you can get beautiful vintage ones which have a lifetime of stories to tell. I really enjoy sewing and have receently started to learn to knit, I love most crafts, all vintage fabrics especially ones with polka dots, charity stores and car boot sales, cherry pie well the list is endless really.

This forum looks brilliant, I hope to chat to you soon.

Rhian--

I'm with you on the cherry pie! It's my favorite...

Also, I totally agree about mass produced items. I try to avoid them when I can. I love opening an antique book, and thinking about all the people who read it before me. I love items that have a story to tell...I thrive on them!

Hi! I've been reading your site for about 3 months now, and I've enjoyed it greatly. It's even inspired me to finally set up my own blog! I'm 38, married mother of 3, craftswoman and dreamer. I live in Liverpool, and come from Rainhill (where the nuts used to live!)

Cherry pie is gorgeous, but I never know whether to use tinned cherries or not. Or do I buy the pie at tescos?

Hi Amy

I'm glad its not only me that thinks mass produced items are no good - everyone around me thinks I'm mad, I'd rather hunt for a vintage piece or if I can't find what I'm looking for I'll take time and try to make what I need. Friends and family can't see the point of this and would rather go to a shop and buy something off the shelf. Never mind I suppose we're all different.

Your little girl sounds as if she's on the road to joining us vintage loving lot - its brilliant that she can spot things that you like already.

Well, other than vintage items being wonderfully unique, they are just of a better quality, as well. Nothing is made like it used to be..everything is so cheaply done nowadays.

Hi Angel Jem

I tend to use tinned cherries for the pie.

Hi Clare! How funny...another thing I'm always saying, that I was born too late!

(I work at a computer all day, where I am right now, and therefore I have a feeling I'll be on this forum far too much during the day!)

Hi PhotoGal, don't you think it's so ironic though - I really love all things vintage, down to 'lighting the fire' in the eveinings and getting up in the nmornings to be confronted by a chilly bathroom - yet couldn't imagine a life without the computer! I suppose you could say we can have the best of both worlds these days! C xx

Oh and I should have said, aren't we 'vintage gals' doing our bit when it comes to the 'carbon footprint' thingy - after all, if you're buying everything old then there's no manufacturing involved! We are the ultimate recyclers aren't we?!

I'm Suz. 30something wife and mother of 3. (I call them the laughlings.) My daughter loves old fashioned things as much as I do. (she's 11) Sometimes I hear her in her room saying to herself "What would Laura Ingalls do?"

I was definately born in the wrong era. I am so very not a Gen Xer.

I live in surburbia, (which is okay for the most part but I wish I had a nice little cottage on the edge of a town somewhere. I like solitude. I'm not much of a people person.) in a large country town in New South Wales Australia.

I found Brocante about a month ago and as I sifted through the pages found the ghosts of all our foremothers in amongst the recipes and advice. It appeals to my inner neat freak.

Being a bookish girl I am of the brand that is given to fanciful and romantic notions. Being a housewife seems to fit in with all of that.

Being Australian, I'm not real big on pie. (I don't know any one who is, unless it's a meat pie of some sort!) And since it's summer I find myself wistfully looking at my super duper nifty Breville Wizz Mixer professional in limited edition chilli red and wishing it was cooler so I could bake to my hearts content. (No one here eats much during summer. It's too hot)

I look forward to sharing with you all and getting to know you all. I have Scottish/Irish roots and have always fancied myself living on an English moor. (Told I was bookish with romantic notions! ) I envy your grey weather. I'd much rather curl up on a big overstuffed lounge with the blanket my Nana crochetted me when I was a baby, my big fat cat Virgil on my lap, a steaming pot of Earl grey and Wuthering heights. Beats sweating it out in this oppressively heavy heat.

(I'm a teensy bit weather obsessed)
