I've been a lurker on the site for a while, so I thought I'd come say hello! I'm completely in love with vintage, shabby chic, and glamourous goodies. I'm about to move house, so seeing some of the pictures and tips has really inspired me to make this new house a home. But I'm getting ahead of myself! I'm Miz aka Nicki, 24, with an amazing man whom I don't deserve, Gof - and I live alone. Perfect arrangement really, I don't have to put up with his Star Wars figures and he doesn't have to put up with the ton of pink frilly things I have everywhere! I work in a cafe, I'll pimp it out as soon as I know I'm allowed, that I'm slowly turning into a vintage haven. My boss knows he doesn't have a say in the matter! Who wouldn't want to drink from dainty china tea cups? Anyway, nice to babble, but I'll stop now. Nice to meet you all! Miz

Hey yet another one in Scotland! booklady is in the Glasgow area too, and I'm in Edinburgh! Do we have the biggest density* of Brocanters here in southern Scotland then? Practically averaging out at one every thirty miles across the Central Belt! Welcome, Miz! Maybe booklady and I should arrange to meet up sometime... if ONLY we could find a cafe in Glasgow that was vintage-friendly... ;-) *that's not the same as being the most dense, okay? Okay?? ;-)

Welcome Miz! I'm Heather and I'm way over here in Arizona. You don't have to put up with his Star Wars stuff?!? Awesome! Right now we are working on arranging our home so that I will soon be able to have my own 'Heather's Room' with all my crafting crap. Yay! I will be glad to have my stuff out of closets and out where I can see it all. My girls are looking forward to it to even though it means they will have to share a room. They like crafting as much as I do. I have to move three rooms around and I have to do most of it on my own since moving things around just puts my DH in a world of pissed off that he doesn't like to go. (I don't much like him to go there either.) He still hasn't got a hold of the idea that it's kind of in a woman's nature to change things around from time to time. (tee-hee) Anyway, I think it's gonna be better for all of us. After all, when Mama is happy.... the whole house is happy! Maybe once you start hookin up your new place and the cafe you could share some pictures. That would be awesome. We are glad you are here. ~heather~

I don't know... I quite enjoy being dense... part and parcel of coming from Glasgow! heheh I really can't think of a vintage cafe with a beautiful wee boutique nearby... oh! Wait - I can! It's a work-in-progress, but I'm sure pretty soon, Kavir (290 Dumbarton Rd - across from Partick Library!) will be known as the wee Persian/vintage cafe! It'd be nice to have a vintage tea morning, tea served with slices of lemon and cucumber sandwiches! And, of course, cupcakes! Ahhh, I'll do that soon methinks. Sound good? I know one day me and G will live together, we joke we already do - just in two houses! But until the absolute crisis THAT is sure to cause, I'm happy I have all my pretty things out to be viewed and enjoyed. Heather, your girls are amazing for letting you have your room. What a lovely thing to do for the woman who has birthed and raised you! So sweet, and I totally agree with the need to change around from time to time - a bookshelf, a room, a house! Sometime I love nothing more than the look of confusion on G's face when he walks into my living room and everything's changed! Really though, it's the only way to continue to see everything as the beautiful things they are. "Part of the furniture" isn't a quote for nothing! I want to be constantly awed by my wonderful furniture, trinkets and photos. Thank you everyone, for your warm welcome!

Hi Miz and welcome, I'm Donna (aka Booklady) and I'm not far from you in Paisley (don't hold it against me, lol, I'm actually a Geordie lass). I can definitely say that there are no vintage style cafes here, but Kavir sounds good. As for living together, 2 separate houses sounds good - at the moment me and OH both work from home in a tiny one-bedroom flat - his office is the hoover cupboard with a desk and bookcase shoved in it. At least I can close the door on him - ha ha. Speak to you soon Donna

Paisley eh? Brave lass... utmost respect for you Donna! My sister lives in Gallowhill, and I've been considering a move to Paisley (for closeness to lil bit and cheapness) - but I'll continue to live at Kavir no matter where I lay my head, I expect! Did you know that the Arriva 17 takes you straight to my cafe? (Not so subtle plug, I know!) Please ladies! Let me know what you would expect from a vintage style cafe... if not to inspire my boring mind, then to show the owner there IS actually a dire need of one! xx

Miz, Paisley's not that bad, I suppose, and it is cheap and transport is good. Are you thinking of an old style tearoom, or something a bit more laid back? To be honest, I don't go to cafes that often, probably because there aren't any decent ones near here. Your ideas sound really good, especially the vintage tea morning. I think as long as the tea and coffee are good quality, and home baking is involved, you're onto a winner. My favourite is Betty's in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, which I always go to when I visit my Dad. See here: www.bettys.co.ukIf anyone ever goes, try the Fat Rascal scone. It's amazing.

Hi Nicki and Greetings from the Sunshine State, USA. It's nice to travel across forum land and meet ladies from everywhere, with all there differences as well as what we all have in common referring to vintage. Vintage is a plethora of ideas and when I think of vintage I think of the 40's, it's an ideal time for me. I think alot of the pictures convey that. Although it may not have been for so many reasons. Anyways.... Welcome to the forum
