PostSubject: Soap.   Thu Oct 11, 2007 2:09 pm

I have an obsession with soap. I even went as far as emailing the people who make knights castile soap, to ask why I cant find it in the shops anymore (if anyone wants to know, knights castile will be distributing again the end of this month in pharmacies and leading department stores). I love all the oldfashioned soaps like pears (which I wash my face with, and I swear my skin has never looked so good), wrights coaltar(which I wash my hands with), carbolic soap (which is in my cleaning cupboard, but I plan on buying a wicker basket, and putting all of my lovely oldfashioned cleaning products in and displaying in the kitchen), fairy green household soap, which I leave by the sink to wash my hands with (it is also great for shifting stubborn stains).
I have lavender and olive oil soap, which I use on my face when Im having a pamering bath.
I am wanting to buy lifebuoy and sunlight soap, camay soap, woolfat soap, and all the ludicrously expensive soaps (I found a soap on the floris website for £75, dont think I will be buying that)
I must curb this obsession!

I love soaps too. I recently bought a homemade soap for headaches, it has the scent of peppermint, lavender and rosewood, it smells wonderful and leaves you feeling so cool when you get out of the shower and the scent did help my headache. I adore homemade soaps, I just wish I knew how to make them.

Me too, it would be great o invent my own soaps! I often get headaches, and if there is a soap out there to cure them, Im getting a bar! I used to always use cleanser on my face, but I swear since Ive started using soap, my skin looks loads better, plus I feel Im been oldfashioned using pears soap to wash my face insted of modern cleansers!
If I find a way to make homemade soap I will let you know.

There are tons of books out ther on making homeade soap. It's very easy if you do melt and pour. But if you want to make it from scratch it's a long process. But I've heard it's way worth it! Hubby and I really want to get into it. We have books on it but we also have two sweet babies that inhibit working with certain chemicals, as most soap is made with lye.

Try this site! It teaches both forms of making soap.

http://www.meltandpour.com/

Oh and question, where do you find this pear soap you speak of? My skin just isn't happy lately no matter what soap I choose. The soap I used to use that was great on my skin isn't being made any longer. I'd be willing to check out that pear soap!

Thank's for that link Michelle.
I dont know if they sell Pear's soap in America, but if you like I could post you a cake of it, or you could try the website below, they sell Pear's, but you will have to check to make sure they deliver to America.
Yardley soap's are excellent aswell, very gentle and the fragrance is divine.
Let me know if you can get hold of the soap from a online shop, if not, I can post you some.
Im sure there will be lot's of companies who sell's Pears who will deliver to America, just type Pear's Soap in on the search engine, or try ebay, anyway, let me know how you get on.

I went to the store last week, needing among other things a bar of soap. However, they had the one we always used when I was little, so I had to have it. Then they had one by my favourite brand. Then there were one in a very pretty vintage-y box. And another for sensitive skin and against acne, with a pretty box as well. I ended up buying all of them... At least, I don´t need to buy soap in a while!

Im like that, if I find soap in a pretty box, I have to have it. Im using Yardleys English Rose soap at the minute, the smell is divine, and it is so soft and creamy, I love it. I cant wait for Christmas day, because I always get lovely smellies from people who know about my obsession.

No such luck for me - if I want nice things, I have to buy them for myself (I guess that´s why I love swaps!) - I´m too old for my parents to buy me presents, my sisters have families of their own, and I´m single - not a lot of people to spoil me, I´m afraid. So I buy lovely things for me, maybe too often even...
The soap I´m using now (Urtekram parfume free) isn´t one of the best, I´m afraid, but I´m too cheap to toss it and use another one. But now, seeing that in writing - when I get home, I WILL toss it - I deserve a yummy soap, isn´t that what the Brocante way has tought us?

Malin & Melanie - you've inspired me. I've had a bar of soap for awhile that I bought at the farmer's market. Supposed to be rose - but it's smell is more weedy to me. I'm throwing out that soap this week, as soon as I buy myself a lovely package of Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Soaps! I deserve to smell yummy.

Maybe we should make it our own puttery treat: Toss all of the not-so-great smelling soaps, or half used bars from your home, and go out and buy something deliciously scented, because you deserve to smell yummy!
I went home and trew my not-so-good bar out, and instead I´m using a very nostalgic soap, the baby soap we always bought at home, a very comforting smell, very nice - now it´s a treat to wash my hands!
