| Hi Melanie, I'm afraid I have lost track now of what is going on - I keep falling asleep! My husband has stayed wide eyed and gripped though, and must be near the end. It seems to have changed tangent somewhere along the line - they're not looking for nuclear bombs any more, but Chinese micro-chips or something??? Don't know how that happened! I'm rubbish. I was just enjoying the snuggling up together really!
PS: Has anyone seen 'The Notebook' ???? Oh my gosh! This would be a good Film Club choice, as it evoked totally different emotional responses from my husband and I - depends on how you view the outcome I suppose. I won't give anything away... |

| Hi Sasha, we have finished watching 24 and I was gripped, it was real good, yip, the chinese are involved now, but it has to do with Jack's dad aswell, I wont say too much. I have the notebook on dvd, I also have the book, and I love it. I gotthe dvd about 2 year ago ( I think, anyway, it was when it was first released) and John and I watched it together and I loved it, I sobbed so much at the end, an excellent film. Have you seen 'How to make an american patchwork quilt', with winona ryder, that is a wonderful film (I think that it is now called how to make a patchwork quilt, but it did have the word american in when it first came out, so search for both title's if you want to see it), I love that film. I have load's of film's Im sure you would enjoy, if there is any you want to see, let me know, and I will see if I have it, and if so, I will burn a copy for you and stick it in the post, I have load's of oldfashioned dvd's, so just let me know, but please watch the patchwork quilt one, it is excellent. |

| I'm so in on the flim club. As for TV shows, I'm a massive LOST fan. I never miss an episode plus I order the DVD's AND I order the episodes for my iPod. I also watch Bewitched, I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver on a regular basis. Good movie I just saw, Dan In Real Life. Great movie check it out. |

| Oh my god Melanie - I haven't sobbed so much over a film before in my life (talking about The Notebook!). I was an emotional mess! I even sobbed all over again when just describing the story to my daughter (who hugged me while laughing at me!), and then again to my parents the next day! They must all think I've lost the plot! It's just so sad.
It's so very kind of you to offer to send me some films! I'll have to have a think and let you know! I don't have a DVD burner on my laptop - bit of a bummer - or I would offer to return the favour! Will check out your American Quilt film suggestion! |

Hmmm. It depends what you mean by missing out..... If it's a good heart wrenching SOB you're after, you're missing out! If you could really rather do without any upset at the moment, save it for another day...
Although..... my husband's take on the ending to the film was to put a much more positive spin on it than me, and from his point of view (which I would give but I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone!) he couldn't understand how deeply upsetting I found it (and he cries at Deal or No Deal!!!??!!).
I think it's worth a watch, not least for the standard of acting which makes what could have been a trashy American love story a deeply moving and very watchable film - and this coming from someone who ALWAYS falls asleep before the end of most films! And for the love of all things Brocante - just enjoy the houses and scenery, and especially the part where he finds and develops a dream home.... |

| So, I realize this whole discussion happened a while ago but I'm a little slow catching up to people. Is the film club going to happen? I'd love to join in. I like film. Particularly dramas with some kind of historical setting. Love Wives and Daughters for instance. _________________ "We had had the pleasure of bird song, of silver rain on greening fields, of storm among the trees, of blossoming meadows, and of the converse of whispering leaves. | My hubby recorded Housewife 49 for me last night so I have that treat to look forward to....it was recommended about a week or so ago on the forum.
I've got plenty to do in the house today so I may have to wait until the weekend...something to relax me.

| | No one has posted in this thread for a while, but we could take it up again. I also love 'Wives and Daughters' and watch it regulary. Carlie, if you like Elizabeth Gaskell stuff, you should try to get your hands on 'Cranford' it is a wonderful book, and the bbc made it into a wonderful tv drama, it was on tv just before christmas last year, and is out on dvd now, I watched it on tv and have it on dvd and have watched it twice already, it is such a wonderful show, and Jacquie, I love Housewife 49, and I am sure you will too. |

| | Cranford was a series on the bbc, it was on each Sunday night for 5 weeks. Take a look on amazon for the dvd, it is well worth a look, as it will probably be cheaper on there than if you bought it from the bbc shop, and it is a fantastic series. |
