Well, I came up with an idea, that we suggest great films to each other on here, maybe we all watch a certain film that one of us suggests then we comment on it, kind of like the book club.
I have so many great films to suggest, I just thought it would be nice.
What do you all think?

I'd be interested. I'm a huge movie buff.

Good, lets see if we can recruit other members and get this show on the road!
I have quite a list of films to suggest, which I hope everyone will like, I think it would be fun!

I bought the Christmas Planner today and am so excited about using it! I hardly ever do a lot to make Christmas special, usually using money as an excuse, or lack of energy, or whatever. Christmas is probably my least favorite time of year because that's when all the family fights have happened in past years, or when something financial always happens to make buying gifts for my kids difficult. But I'm tired of feeling this way - so this year I'm doing something about it. Won't be easy to overcome these feelings, but I'm sure going to try.

I forgot to say I'd be interested in the film club. I don't get to watch many films, but I do love watching the old ones on the American Movie Classics channel, and also check videos from the library, which has lots of old classics.

Karla,
You can start a new generation of happy memories. Here's my example of why I say this...

My granddad was an abused fatherless child in the early 1900's. His stepfather nearly killed him more than once. Yet, he had a staunchly good mother in spite of her plight, and he learned to be a true Christian from her. He could have raised my dad, and thus my dad could have raised me in an abusive way, and I my children, but Granddaddy changed all that with his own life. Because of him, I have a truly blessed life and know what true Christianity means.

You are a good person, and I know you probably know this already. I just wanted to tell my story here. We can be the beginning of great good for generations to come. Sorry I'm OT here.

YES! I love the idea of a film club. What a good suggestion.

You are so right Rosie - all of us have the power within to make the 'buck stop here' when it comes to changing the pattern of previous generations, and make our own paths - better, happier ones for us and our children. My proudest achievement in my life will be NOT repeating the mistakes of my parents/grandparents etc with my own daughter.

And it's never too late for change, or to instill some new happy traditions/memories!

Good for you Karlanee! I say do away with that which is negative, and do christmas on your own terms - it is your prerogative. Some silly ways I do this is, if christmas is at my house, I am in charge of what is allowed - my house, my rules. TV is a no-no christmas day at mine - so no arguments over who wants to watch what! If we don't want to go anywhere, schlepping from house to house, we don't. If we fancied curry for Xmas dinner, we'd have it! I think the key is to let anyone to whom it would be relevent know in advance - then they either opt in on your terms, or not - their choice. We just feel we owe it to our daughter to make each christmas as happy as we can - she is our priority, not everyone else, and everyone who loves us understands this. I wish you a wonderful time, whatever you do.

Anyhoo..... I would love to get some film/movie recommendations here! My husband and I watch a film of some sort nearly every day (his taste is questionable however - his favourite film is, unbelievably for a 39 year old butch, company director, karate kicking ninja - 'Maid in Manhatten'!!! Oh yes - and not just for J-Lo - he finds it emotionally uplifting and moving??!!) Ok, so he also gets a tear in his eye if someone wins on 'Deal or No Deal'! To get a head's up on some would be great!

My husband and I watch a dvd every night as we rent from blockbuster online, which means at least twice a week, 3 great dvds are popped through our letter box. At the minute we are watching 24 season 6, not a film I know, but compulsive viewing all the same (Jacks Back, he is like superman, no one can get rid of him). It is something we both enjoy watching. John and I also love watching Charles Dickens films, great stuff.
Well, Alison has kindly said she will mention it on Brocante Home, so as soon as she does, we will get started, Im really excited about it, does that make me silly?

Great advice and encouragement from all of you. I think I'm in a cyclical type of "down time" lately. Realized this morning I simply don't care about anything - I'm thinking that's hormones talking. LOL

Anyway - Rosie - I really identify with your grandfather's story. My own family story and my own individual story is very similar.

Melanie - yes that makes you silly, right along with all the rest of us silly girls! I mean really - what girl can be vintage-loving and not be classified as just a little silly?

Oh my goodness Melanie - my husband and I are also snuggling up in bed with an episode or two (if I stay awake that long!) of 24, series 6! I look forward to fetting all snuggy in our lovely new bed, propped together with lots of soft pillows and cushions, the fairy lights on and being gripped! My husband is a total 24 addict, and couldn't wait for Xmas to receive series 6 - he bought it as soon as it came out here! I like it because I can dip in and out, and even if I fall asleep, the regular updates at beginning of each episode catch you straight up again. Genius.

Wow, that is strange that you and your hubby are watching 24 aswell! We only have 2 more episodes to watch then we have completed 24, which episode are you up to? We love it, it definately has you gripped! We snuggle up under the fleece blanket on the sofa, and when one episodes finishes, we feel we must watch another to see what happens, the result been we normally go to bed quite late! Great stuff though!
