| That chicken sounds really good. But how does the skin come out? Is it all soggy? Do you take the skin off before eating? Or do you take the skin off before cooking? When I roast a chicken in the oven and the skin is all crispy, hubby likes to eat it, although I know it's not healthy. In the crock pot, how does the skin come out? Although maybe it'd help him to not eat it if I cooked it this way. He loves chicken salad too so this sounds like a nice way to cook the chicken in the summer - in a crock pot intead of heating up the house putting the stove on.
Thanks for all these recipes everyone. They sound good! I will try some this summer, definitely. |

| | There's nothing like a slow cooker for easy meals. I do stews, casseroles and soups in mine. In fact, today there's a lamb stew on the go. I love the smell of the lamb, leeks and rosemary! |

| Hi all - can anyone help?
I too love my slow cooker! I am a bit perplexed about the whole chicken though - my slow cooker booklet says you have to have everything totally immersed in liquid before cooking? I would love to 'roast' whole joints in it, but have been a bit scared to because of the instructions!(I envisage spontaneous combustion, or soldering to the bottom of the pan!). Or do you have to have a special type of slow cooker? If it's perfectly safe to go ahead and do. let me know if anyone would be so kind, and I can go ahead!
Thanks Sasha |

| Hi Sasha, Does your slow cooker look like this?
That's the one I have and have cooked a whole chicken in it many a time-- for barbeque chicken sanwiches. I don't use any liquid, either. Just slice up an onion and cut a stalk of celery in half and place in the bottom of your cooker, season chicken with salt and pepper then place it on top of the veggies. In my cooker it usually takes about 5 hours on low. If you want to make barbeque sandwiches-- after cooking, take it out, discard veggies and cooking juices, shred the meat off the carcus using two forks, throw the meat back into the cooker, add a bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce and let it cook about 30 minutes more, and wah-lah you have shredded barbeque chicken to put on your favorite bun. |

| This reminds me. Need to pick up a brisket of beef. My husband really likes the slow cook brisket I make and I've not done it in a while. _________________ Bloomin' Lovely Blog Pumpkins on the Vine |

| That's fantastic Joon-Ann - thanks so much for that info!! The BBQ chicken sounds loverly!!! This must also (pre-sauce) be quite a healthy way of cooking a chicken too mustn't it?
I will be brave and give whole joints of meat a go then (and yes, my slow cooker is just like the one in the picture!). |

| | Sasha - I do whole chickens in mine all the time too. Just rinse the chicken, stick the whole thing in and cook away. I do mine exactly like Joon Ann does. It turn out yummy every time. |
