| I was wondering if our love for older things also includes names. How many of you have picked or would pick older names for your kids. I did.

| If I had been allowed to....our son would have taken the name Llewellyn. We lived in Canada when he was born and my hubby, although he also likes Welsh names, felt it would be a handicap to name our son Llewellyn as very few people would be able to pronounce it properly....so he was named David instead! (lol) Our first child we were convinced would be a boy and the chosen name was going to be Adam. Baby popped out and was a girl....and was 3 days old before she was named...Brenda. Jacquie x |

| My oldest daughter's name is Sarah - I suppose that's "old" since it's in the Bible. My youngest daughter, Ashley, wants to name a girl child Emma or Hazel. Very old fashioned. I really wanted to name one of my daughters Elizabeth - but my husband wouldn't go for it. |

Me too! I should have insisted, seeing as how we ended up getting divorced anyhow.......and on with the show.
David and Pauline. I was stuck for a boy's name. His father came up with that. Pauline is a family name I insisted on since Elizabeth was overruled. My recall my next choice was Jennifer.
My grandmothers' names were Bessie (a form of Elizabeth) Bertha, Gladys and Frances. I was adopted by my biological aunt and her husband, hence the extra grandma. I always liked one of my granddad's names; Hudson. |

| Ummm... just a small reminder that this is a public messageboard and police advice (in the UK at any rate) is that children's names shouldn't be advertised widely if possible, as in not knitting jumpers with the child's name on, etc... because strangers can then approach the child knowing its name and saying "your Mummy sent me to collect you"... I know, I know... but it's easy enough to go through someone's postings or to their blog, and find out their name, their town, etc... Entirely up to each person what they feel comfortable with, in terms of giving out information that can be used to identify them - but on another public messageboard I use, one woman had to dial 999 for the police because a rather unstable person worked out where she lived, travelled about 40 miles, and watched until her husband went out and then came in, physically violent, right into the woman's house, breaking furniture, etc. Just be aware... you can always post something and later on edit it out if you like. laura |

| I named my son and two daughters using a combination of some family names and some that I just loved...Morrison Grey(13),Catherine Arabella(12), and Camilla Margaret(9).I wanted names with a history and a certain substance...and I just adore the melody of multi-syllable names!

| I liked those names... the two people in my family history are my great granpa Amos Parleymon, and his brother my Great uncle Addison Newton Sager Baker Hawk. I think their parents had a sense of humor..they had too. |

| I picked Reuben Blythe and Gideon Wilder. Def. a little vintage feel there. _________________ "We had had the pleasure of bird song, of silver rain on greening fields, of storm among the trees, of blossoming meadows, and of the converse of whispering leaves. | Blythe and Wilder as middle names? My, what a lot for your sons to live up to in adulthood!!! Beautiful names though, and were I to have a child, "Almanzo" would definitely be on the list of possible names for a son, so it's just as well I have none! ;-) Welcome Carliegirl. A tiny bit reminiscent of "Annegirl", perhaps? laura |
