Has anyone ever read any Angela Thirkell and Jan Karon books? I was just wondering if they are good, also, has anyone read any Anthony Trollope books? Im trying to find a author who writes about the countryside, but I have read most of them, any suggestions?

I've read Jan Karon and I love her books, the characters are absolutely wonderful. Start from the beginning so you can know each one. I still haven't read her latest book but plan to eventually. I've never heard of the other author. I'll have to look her up.

If anyone likes mystery and adventure Elizabeth Peters is fun. Start from the beginning on that one too.

I can't seem to get the first of the Mitford books to get started. The library always has it out. Time to put it on reserve I suppose.

Karla,

At home in Mitford is almost always in the used book shops. I'd check that out also.

Elizabeth Peters is around the turn of the century and she is ahead of her time, she is adventurous and curious, just read it.

I was thinking this morning that as I am finding internet time (my way of relaxation) to not suit me always at the moment....I should consider taking up some "escapism" reading.

Country reading and tales of Edwardian/Victorian days intrigued me in the past so I ought to take that type of reading up again.

I'll look into the authors mentioned here too.

I love reading anything about the countryside, especially if the book was written in the past or is set in the past, like Larkrise to Candleford and Adam Bede, great books.

A stretch for me was the Elizabeth Peters, it is around the late 1800's in the beginning, and they are from England. Then they travel to Egypt are involved in archaeology, and the charcters are wonderful. I've tried to envision who I would chose to play their parts and I still can't come up with anyone ...yet.
