Bathroom re-fit on Friday

We have lived in the accommodation above our shop since 1991 and have been putting up with a really awful bathroom. The suite is that kind of pale pink that was popular about a century ago (well, I exagerate!!) and the tiles have slowly begun falling off the wall area (the bathrom is fully tiled.

Well....we finally decided a few weeks ago that it was so desperate to be upgraded that we would get quotes and go ahead. So, tomorrow morning they will be coming and ripping everything out (gutting all except the hot water tank) and in it's place they will be putting a corner bath suite, my washer and dryer behind cupboard doors and with a countertop (being brought up from down in our back room of the shop) and it will be totally panelled with a drop ceiling (complete with inset lights and exhaust fan. I am so looking forward to having it all done...likely will take the crew about 5 days to complete so they'll be working over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The flooring will be waterproof laminate and above the hot water tank will be a storage cupboard to the ceiling.

Can't wait....the bathroom is almost emptied of toiletries and pictures etc. so it's looking pretty sparse...and ready! and just in time for my friend's visit in a little over a week's time too.

Exciting times ahead Jacquie! It all sounds fantastic. Try and grit your teeth through the upheavel - and keep reminding yourself how wonderful it will be in the end!

Jacquie - hope you take some before and after photos to share with us! Sounds like exciting progress!

I think the bathroom fitters will do that. I have a new camera on order from Amazon but it hasn't arrived yet. If they do take before and after pictures I'll be sure and share them.

I am really excited about having a beautiful bathroom and the convenience of laundry facilities upstairs (particularly as I am spending less and less time in the shop area).

I am not so excited about the noise and dust...I have a standing invitation to jump ship and spend time either at our daughter's home or the home of my friend with the lovely garden and conservatory, So I am blessed.

Definitely take up some of those offers Jacquie! It will make the whole experience seem even more of an exciting treat, not a headache!

And Sasha, I did just that. My good friend invited me over and we sat, basking in the sun in her conservatory and she made me a really delicious lunch of tortilla wrap with chicken & salad, some cherry tomatoes and cucumber on the side and a little dish with a strawberry, kiwi fruit slices, orange slices, grapes...all arranged beautifully...a feast for the eyes.

Join the sunshine and lunch together and mix in some good chatter and it was a really enjoyable time of retreat. It is a wonderful gift to have a good friend.

I then went to our daughter's home just as she was bringing her children home from school. A brief visit with accompanying cuddles and it was back to home.

The bathroom is gutted (except for the toilet...that is removed tomorrow), tiles are all off, storage cupboard is now just a carcass which will be modified tomorrow. The plumber wil be here at 9am along with the other workmen.

It's all taking shape nicely.

Wonderful! Good friends are indeed a real blessing - and you must be a good one to have some good ones I always think. Can't wait to find out how it's all going Jacquie.....

It's going rather slower than we anticipated (isn't that always the way with maintenance jobs in the home!). The wrong bath was delivered and had to go back for exchange so that is holding up progress. The workmen are now saying it will be Saturday before they finish it all off (my friend comes early on Sunday morning!...midnight oil will be burning I reckon on the Saturday).

The panelling is up on about half the walls, the floor is half laminated, toilet is in, lighting and circulating fan is in...framework to accommodate the washer and dryer is in and I think the countertop and doors will be put in tomorrow. They have said once the bath is here it will go like clockwork...I sure hope they are right.

They gave me instructions to buy a new pull cord for the shower and I thought....hmmmm, don't need a new one....I'll just bleach the cord that's here (I know it's only pennies, but it's the principle of the thing...lol). Anyhow, it's come up a treat...all looking brand spanking new. I am chuffed with my resourcefulness.

I'll be finishing off organizing my hung plate collection tomorrow. I took them all down in the dining room and washed them all....so they all will go up and then I hope to get the last of the guest room ready for my friend. I am getting so very excited to see her.

I'll be sure and post some photos when it's all done. I have an idea in my head how it will all look but it's still difficult to envision it really!
