I'm in a storage pickle. I recently aquired my grandma's china and I have absolutely no where to store it. It is currently still in the box I brought it home in, sitting next to my couch. My china cabinet is cram-packed with the dishes from my husband's childhood, all of my teapots, teacups, other vintage items of Grandma's and teatime accessories, and wine glasses. There is not an inch of space to spare in my cabinets either. I need to figure something out.

I'd love to find new display places for my teapots and stuff so I can display my grandma's china - but I don't want to put the tea pots into hiding either. I also simply don't have anymore room and I can't bear to part with any of these things.

Can anyone recommend a decent way to store the china?

My Grandmother's house had a shelf running right round the room about 8-12 inches down from the ceiling; right out of the way and designed for putting ornaments on, on display.

Worth trying for things you won't use often?

Hers was a dark wooden shelf on dark wooden brackets against a pale green or white wall (several rooms) in a 1930s house and looked lovely. Argh that word again! I never realised how often I use 'lovely'!

Do you have 'tops' to your kitchen cupboards Karla, with enough spare space between it and the ceiling to place things on display up there, out of harms way? The teapots could go up there, the china in their place in a cabinet?

My husbands favourite option is to say 'just use it!!'. He doesn't see the merit of saving stuff for best - in his eyes, for the once or twice a year it might get used, it's a waste, and we should eat off 'posh' crockery every day!

I hasten to add that we DON'T as I live with Frank Spencer (VERY clumsy comedy character from the 70's) and mini Francesca Spencer, and there would not be a single piece of our Wedgewood bone china wedding service left if we did that!

Could you decide to use some though, and store others?

Sasha - I do have tops to my counter - but they are only tall enough to fit a canning jar up there, most of the teapots are too tall for that area.

I do use the teapots and teacups on a regular basis - and I'd love to use the china, I just don't have anywhere to store the china.

Hmmm - those are great ideas I'm just not sure how to carry it out.

Here's my latest idea for a solution - I believe that I may pack up the Precious Moments pieces in the curio part of my secretary that's in my bedroom and then store my teapots and teacups in the secretary. I'm the only one that uses the teapots really, and I'd love to have them next to my desk.
