I know, I know... we all get it 'orribly wrong sometimes...!
I repaired and washed the peg-bag so it looks all lovely again... so I had the genius idea of machine-washing the clothes-pegs. They're those wooden spring-clip ones.
I put them into a pillowcase that was by the washing-machine waiting to be washed, and tied some strong garden-twine very tightly round the top to keep them inside. Cunning, hmm? Put the pegs inside the pillowcase so they don't destroy the washing-machine... use garden string because that's strong and robust...
...except it was green garden-twine and now the pillowcase has a green mark all across its back where the string was in contact! ;-(
And it turns out to be one of Mum's new ones...!!!
I popped it damp into water with borax, then washed it in a normal 40-degree... a bit better but still not clean... so it's back in its borax bath to stop it drying which really will set the mark permanently...
The label says it's 100% cotton but also says not to bleach... any ideas? I've used the hydrogen peroxide on it (ie the far cheaper version of Oxy-Clean), but it's still got a green intermittent line...
it's only an Ikea one so not a fortune to replace, but I'd rather get it clean!
Any ideas other than long soak in borax and water; peroxide whitening; scrub with nailbrush and soap?
Bleach will be tried as a very final resort after all else has failed and jsut before buying Mum a new one!
Thanks!
laura
p.s. the pegs came out beautifully clean and look like new ones!
