How would one get rid of a cooking oil or grease stain on clothing? I have a favorite shirt that has one and I didnt notice it until after it went through the washer AND the dryer!

Hmmmthe dryer..that is iffy...I'd use the oxyclean and leave it on over night...wash it and don't dry it hang it. sometimes you can't tell if it is out unless it is dry...that's what I would do, but I'd check around first.

check and see what hints form heloise would do.

Try washing-up liquid, which is made to cut through grease? Rub it in neat, leave a while, and then wash again as usual. You can also (here) buy specialist stain removers for different things, like grease, which are usually good. Hope you get the stain out.

Good luck! I've never been able to shift greasy stains like cooking oil and mayo. Tomato based stains are another one.

Does anyone use one of those laundry bars cum stain remover thingys with any success? I've been looking at them as I don't find the usual commercial removers do anything.

I've had success with cornstarch. You liberally sprinkle cornstarch on the oily area and leave it sit overnight. Brush off the excess. I then launder as normal. If it's still there, I then try Dawn dish liquid (or some other dish soap with greasefighters in it) on it. Put it on there undiluted and let it sit for awhile (30 minutes or so) and then launder as usual.

You also need to make sure you use warm water or hot water if the fabric can handle it when you launder it. If you've already dried it, you may end up needing to take it to a drycleaner for help. There are also plenty of degreasers on the market you could try.
