| Subject: Moth Proof Storage? Mon Jun 30, 2008 1:49 pm | |
| I've decided that some things I do wear, but rarely, are going to be stored in a rarely-opened cupboard but they are JUST the things moths would love, lovely woollen and fur and yum yum they will go as they much through happily...
I don't like to use major chemicals, and mothballs really aren't an option anywhere near my asthmatic niece!
I;m thinking of this kind of thing, but would LOVE advice, experiences, recommendations:
- CLEAN everything as much as possible, wash it or at least hang outside in sunlight and beat with a brush
- MIST everything with a fine mist of water, a drop of alcohol and essential oils - now what? For the alcohol, isn't rum meant to be anti-moth? And cedarwood oil... other oils specifically recommended against moth?
- FREEZE for 48 hours in domestic freezer before storing to kill anything nestling deep within, yeuch yeuch eeeuuuwwwww
Now... the storage... it's some hanging space and some box space. Has anyone tried those vacuum-packed storage bags? I never know if they will work or not; you pack clothes in, faasten it up and then use an ordinary vacuum cleaner nozzle to pull the air out, meaning they are encased in plastic but take up very little space. I thought those for the box space, IF they would actually work, that is?
And then the storage hanging... you can get those zip-up plastic covers but they aren't most-proof, the zip would leave a tiny space top and bottom for it to get in... anyone know of moth-proof hanging packaging?
We have moths in this house and in the past they have been appalling in some little-used areas, so I want to do this properly!
Thanks!
