| I had a dilemma with the boyfriend and the fridge....
...now he says the dishwasher stinks (I cannot smell anything wrong with it) and apparently it is because I rinse the dishes before putting them in??? He says the instructions always say not to do this...
i am just curious...
I have been introducing uncovered stuff into the fridge and he has said nothing so he is obviously changing his focus to another appliance!!!
Weird...
Is it true though??? |

| I want to know where this guy learned about appliances! I'm literally laughing here! Oh gosh!
I've always thought you were SUPPOSED to rinse to minimize food particles getting gunked up in the dishwasher.
Perhaps, just to please him, you could run the dishwasher empty with a little vinegar poured in the bottom. This will help freshen it!
Seriously - perhaps you need to go with him to an appliance store with all of his weird questions and get them settled once and for all. |

| I think he is just trying to be difficult...I told him my mum had always told me to rinse dishes before putting them in and she knows what she is talking about!!
He is in an odd mood of late...we (mum and me) think he is having a mini pre baby crisis...he told me I was walking too loudly earlier...I have arthritis and am glad I can walk at all...and I told him so... _________________ Ouissi x http://ajournalofdreams.blogspot.com |

| | Okay, but now I've done research by googling and found this that says you shouldn't rinse before putting them in. Perhaps he's wrong and we're right. Who knows. Now I'm biting my tongue because maybe he's not being weird after all. |

| I like this bit....how to become a slave to your dishwasher!! and what if you buy a new one???
"Buy dishes, bowls, glasses, pots, etc that fit into your dishwashers. Try them out before committing. Return them if they don't fit. Give old "mis-fits" as wedding presents."
The latter bit is actually quite weird.... |

| | Oh my gosh, I have to laugh. I thought I was the only one that ever had to speak to my husbands mom. When he's being impossible I'll tell him I'm gonna call his mom and I have too. |

| Just to say, Ouissi....I do not rinse my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. It rather defeats the purpose of the dishwasher in my mind. The dishwasher is meant to be a water-saving device and reduce having to rinse/wash by hand.
Do you regularly clean the filters in your dishwasher? I know a friend who had never owned a dishwasher, moved to a new house that had a dishwasher installed but no instruction manual. It was a few weeks before a chance conversation with her revealed she wasn't cleaning the filters...thus the smells. Could this be your problem? or is simply pre-baby jitters by your partner?
Walking too loudly...oh my goodness....wait til he's got a cranky, tired baby to listen to! Just tell him...."you ain't heard nothing yet."

| I run a rinse cycle before each wash load and clean the filters after all the bits have collected on the filter screen....so they can't smell!!!
I don't think it smells anyways.... _________________ Ouissi x http://ajournalofdreams.blogspot.com |

| I'm speachless! Well, nearly (ha ha)......
The instructions for my dishwasher say categorically don't rinse dishes first, but it has nothing to do with smells or anything mechanical, it is so the abrasives in the dishwashing detergent have something to work on and don't simply 'wash' the pattern/surface off your plates etc!!! So, although I think like Jacquie I wouldn't be bothered to rinse stuff, I know lots of people that do, and that is up to you!
Have you tried running a hot cycle with one of those dishwasher cleaning bottles in? They really do work (as would Karla's vinegar idea). You can get fresheners that hang in there too. Even though I believe you that there is no smell (pregnancy heightens your senses, so I think you'd know!) stick one in just to shut him up. Or rather - if he has a problem, let him resolve it!!! Don't try bleach in a cycle - my mother in law did this once and it frothed out everywhere mid cycle!!!
And walking too loudly???????? Methinks someone needs to get a grip! |
